How to Set Up Automatic Punishments in Grim Anticheat
Deciding on Automatic Actions
Grim can be
configured to automatically kick or ban players when they exceed violation thresholds. Automatic punishment removes the need for staff to be online, but it also risks punishing players who trigger false positives. Think carefully before enabling bans.
Choosing Between Kick and Ban
Kicking is the safer option. A kicked player can rejoin, and if the flag was a false positive they simply reconnect. Banning is permanent until manually reversed, so only enable it for checks you are highly confident about, or require a very high violation count before a ban triggers.
Configuring Thresholds
In the configuration file, each check has a threshold value. When a player's violation level for that check exceeds the threshold, the
configured action fires. Set thresholds high enough that lag or unusual but legitimate play does not trigger them, but low enough that blatant cheaters are caught quickly. Test on a staging server first.
Handling False Positives
Keep a log of every automatic punishment. If a legitimate player is banned, you need to know which check caused it so you can raise that threshold. Consider starting with kick-only punishments, monitoring for a week, then escalating to bans only for checks that never produce false positives on your server.
