How to Use Graves and Obituaries Together
Understand the Two Items
The Gravestone Mod uses two related items for death recovery: the Grave block and the Obituary. The Grave is placed in the world at your death spot and holds your items. The Obituary is a record item that comes into play when a grave cannot be placed normally, serving as an alternative way to store and reclaim your belongings. Knowing which one you got tells you how to recover your gear.
When You Get a Grave
If you died in a valid, open location, a Grave block appears where you fell. Return to the coordinates from your death message, break the grave, and collect your items. Do not place other blocks on top of it or let it get buried, as that can make it hard to find or interact with.
When You Get an Obituary
If the death location could not hold a grave — for example, an unsafe or occupied spot — the mod may give you an Obituary instead. This item stores your death information and items. Follow your config's instructions to redeem it, typically by using the item. Keep it in a safe slot and do not drop it, since it represents your lost inventory.
Best Practices
- Read the death message carefully to learn whether a grave or obituary was created.
- Recover items promptly, especially on multiplayer servers.
- Check your config to confirm how each item behaves in your world before relying on it.
