How to Recover Your Items After Dying with the Gravestone Mod

Find Your Grave

When you die, the Gravestone Mod places a grave at your death location and stores your dropped items inside it instead of scattering them on the ground. A chat message and, depending on your configuration, a waypoint or coordinates will point you toward the grave. Head back to that spot — the grave block sits where you fell.

Break the Grave to Retrieve Items

Walk up to the grave and break it like a normal block. Your stored items drop out or are returned to your inventory, depending on how the mod is configured on your server or singleplayer world. If you died in lava or the void, check your configuration: many setups let the grave survive or relocate so your items are not lost permanently.

Use the Obituary

If a grave cannot be placed (for example, the death spot is unsafe or blocked), the mod may generate an Obituary item instead. This item records your death and lets you reclaim your belongings. Right-click or use the Obituary as instructed by your config to recover the stored inventory. Keep it safe until you do — losing the Obituary can mean losing the items it holds.

Practical Tips

  • Return quickly if other players or mobs can interact with graves on your server.
  • Note the coordinates from the death message before you wander off.
  • If the grave is buried or underwater, dig or drain carefully so you do not destroy it by accident.
