How to Configure the Gravestone Mod for Your World

Open the Config File

After installing the mod, a configuration file is generated in your instance's config folder. Open it with a plain text editor. The config controls how graves behave, what happens on death, and whether extra features like the Ghost of Player mob are enabled. Back up the file before editing so you can restore defaults if something breaks.

Key Options to Adjust

While exact option names vary by version, the config typically lets you control:

  • Whether a grave is created on death at all.
  • Whether items are stored in the grave, the Obituary, or dropped normally.
  • Whether graves are protected from other players or explosions.
  • Whether the Ghost of Player mob spawns and how it behaves.
  • Whether death coordinates are shown in chat.

Change only one setting at a time and note what you changed. Save the file, then reload the world or restart the game for changes to apply.

Test Your Settings

Create a throwaway world or use a safe area and die deliberately (for example, by jumping into a controlled hazard) to confirm the grave spawns and your items are stored as expected. If the grave does not appear, recheck that grave creation is enabled and that the death location allows a block to be placed.

Server vs Singleplayer

On a server, the config lives on the server side and overrides client settings for gameplay behavior. Coordinate with your admin before changing shared options, since grave protection and item storage affect everyone.
