Optimize Shader Performance on Lower-End Systems
Identify Performance Options
Access the Gnome Shaders settings menu and look for performance or quality presets. Most shader packs offer multiple tiers—typically labeled as Low, Medium, High, or Ultra.
Select Appropriate Quality Level
Choose a lower quality preset if you're experiencing frame rate drops or lag. Lower settings reduce the complexity of water reflections, lighting calculations, and shadow rendering while maintaining the core visual improvements.
Fine-Tune Individual Features
If presets don't provide enough control, look for individual toggles:
- Disable or reduce reflection quality
- Lower shadow distance or complexity
- Reduce lighting effect intensity
- Disable advanced water effects if needed
Monitor Performance
After each adjustment, check your frame rate in-game using the debug screen (F3 key). Test in various environments—bright daylight, caves, and underwater—since different areas stress the shader differently.
Balance Visuals and Smoothness
Find the sweet spot where the shader still looks noticeably better than vanilla while maintaining playable frame rates. You can always increase settings later if your system improves.
