Enhance Lighting in Dark Caves and Underground Areas

Understand Gnome's Lighting System

Gnome Shaders brightens overall game lighting, but caves and deep underground areas may still appear dark. The shader enhances how light sources (torches, lanterns, glowstone) illuminate surroundings rather than adding artificial brightness.

Maximize Light Source Effectiveness

Place torches and lanterns strategically to take advantage of the shader's enhanced lighting:

  • Space light sources closer together than you normally would
  • Use brighter light sources like lanterns or soul lanterns
  • Place lights on walls and ceilings to spread illumination across larger areas
  • Combine multiple light types for layered, realistic lighting

Adjust Shader Lighting Settings

In the shader options, look for lighting intensity or brightness multiplier settings. Increasing these values makes torchlight spread further and glow more prominently in dark spaces.

Test Different Configurations

Build a small test chamber underground with various light placements. Observe how the enhanced lighting interacts with blocks and shadows. This helps you plan mining operations and builds that look good under the shader's lighting model.

The shader won't eliminate darkness entirely—it enhances realistic light behavior rather than creating artificial brightness.
