Use Glow Squids as Underwater Lighting

Finding and Positioning Glow Squids

Glow squids spawn naturally in deep ocean biomes and underwater caves. Once you locate them, they'll automatically emit light at a level of 14—bright enough to see clearly and navigate safely underwater.

Creating an Underwater Base with Natural Light

To use glow squids as your primary light source:

1. Build an enclosed chamber or tank where you want lighting

2. Lead or transport glow squids into the space using water currents or boats

3. Keep them contained with glass or solid blocks so they remain in place

4. The squids will continuously emit light, eliminating the need for torches or lanterns

This approach creates an atmospheric, magical lighting system perfect for underwater bases, farms, or decorative builds. The light level is sufficient for most activities, including crafting and smelting.

Maintenance

Glow squids need water to survive. Ensure your chamber remains flooded and provide adequate space for the squids to move. They won't despawn if you name them with a name tag.
