How to Add a Datapack to a Modpack Using Global DataPacks

Locating the Global Folder

After installing the mod, launch the game once so the mod can generate its folder structure. Close the game, then open your Minecraft instance directory (the same place where the mods and config folders live). Inside, look for a folder named global_data_packs. If it does not exist yet, create it yourself with that exact name — capitalization matters on some operating systems.

Dropping In Your Datapack

You have two options for how to place a datapack inside global_data_packs:

  • As a folder: Copy the entire unzipped datapack folder (the one containing pack.mcmeta and a data directory) directly into global_data_packs.
  • As a zip: Copy the .zip archive of the datapack into global_data_packs without extracting it.

Do not nest the datapack inside an extra subfolder — the pack.mcmeta file or the zip itself must sit directly inside global_data_packs. Once placed, start Minecraft and load any world. The datapack will be applied automatically to every world you open, which is the whole point of this mod for modpack creators.

Verifying It Loaded

Run /datapack list in chat. Your pack should appear with a modpack prefix in its name, distinguishing it from vanilla or world-specific packs.
