Optimize Animations for Performance and Smooth Playback
Reduce Bone Complexity
In Blockbench, use only the bones you need. Unnecessary bones increase calculation overhead. Merge small decorative elements into parent bones when possible. GeckoLib processes every animated bone each frame, so fewer bones mean better performance.
Use Appropriate Easing Curves
Linear easing is faster to compute than complex curves. Reserve advanced easings (bounce, elastic) for animations where the visual difference matters. Simple movements like walking can use linear or ease-in-out without visual loss.
Limit Concurrent Animations
While GeckoLib supports many simultaneous animations, running dozens on a single entity will cause lag. Prioritize which animations truly need to layer. Use animation blending rather than stacking unnecessary controllers.
Optimize Keyframe Density
Avoid placing keyframes every single frame. Use keyframes strategically at points where movement changes direction or speed. GeckoLib interpolates between keyframes, so fewer keyframes still produce smooth motion with less data to process.
Monitor Performance
Use Minecraft's debug profiler to check frame times when your animated entities are visible. If performance drops, reduce animation complexity or the number of animated entities on screen.
