Fullbright UB Resource Pack: How It Works and What It Changes

Brightness Without Torches

Fullbright UB is a resource pack, not a mod, so it changes how the game looks rather than how it plays. Its single job is to override the standard lightmap — the texture Minecraft uses to decide how dark a block should appear. With that lightmap replaced, the usual pitch-black shadows are gone, and every corner of the world renders as if lit by daylight.

This applies across all dimensions. Deep caves, mineshafts, ocean floors, and the Nether all become bright and easy to read. Because nothing about actual light levels changes, you still need torches to stop mobs from spawning — the pack only affects what you see. That said, spotting ores in a fully lit cave is far quicker, and you can build through the night or explore underground without night vision potions.

It works alongside vanilla setups and performance mods like Sodium and OptiFine without hurting frame rates.
