What Absorption Hearts Are

Absorption is a status effect that grants temporary extra health. When you have absorption, golden hearts appear above your normal red hearts on the health bar. Fresh Hearts gives these golden hearts a modern, polished look.

How to Get Absorption

You can trigger absorption through several methods:

• Eat Golden Apples (crafted or found in loot)
• Use Enchanted Golden Apples for stronger absorption
• Get hit by certain mobs or effects that grant absorption
• Use commands: /effect give @s absorption

Once you have absorption active, look at your health bar. The extra golden hearts stacked on top of your red hearts will display with Fresh Hearts' updated textures — cleaner outlines and more vibrant coloring. These hearts absorb damage first before your actual health takes a hit, making them visually distinct and important to monitor during combat.
