Understand How the Mod Handles Incoming Messages

What the Mod Does and Doesn't Change

Freedom Chat Mod specifically targets outgoing messages from your server while leaving incoming message handling unchanged. This design choice prevents connection issues for regular players.

How Incoming Messages Work

When players join your server:

  • Their clients still perform normal message verification checks
  • The mod does not interfere with these checks
  • Players using vanilla clients experience no problems
  • Players using chat-modifying clients can join (if enforce-secure-profiles is set to false)

Why This Matters

By only modifying outgoing messages, the mod removes chat signatures from messages sent by your server while allowing standard client-side verification to proceed normally. This means:

  • No connection errors for standard players
  • No need for players to install anything
  • Chat reports cannot be filed on messages from your server
  • The mod works transparently in the background

This approach keeps your server compatible with all client types while still achieving the goal of disabling the reporting system.
