Comparing Vanilla Lighting to Shader Lighting
Toggle the Shader On and Off
Most shader launchers let you disable shaders temporarily without restarting. Use this to compare directly. Open your shader menu and select "None" or "Off," then return to your world. Switch back to For the Real Potatoes Shaders to see the difference side-by-side.
Notice the Key Changes
With the shader enabled, you'll see:
- Shadows under blocks and trees that vanilla Minecraft lacks
- Softer lighting transitions between bright and dark areas
- More realistic time-of-day lighting during sunrise and sunset
- Better cave lighting that still feels atmospheric
Evaluate the Impact
Pay attention to how shadows affect gameplay. They make terrain easier to read and give your world more depth. Check if the improved lighting helps you spot mobs or resources better. Most players find the visual improvement worth the small performance cost, especially since this shader is optimized for low-end systems.
