Use PBR Resource Packs for Realistic Materials

Understand PBR Compatibility

Focal Engine Mod works with Physically Based Rendering (PBR) resource packs, which define how materials like stone, metal, and wood reflect light realistically. These packs require both the mod and a compatible shader to display properly.

Install and Activate a PBR Pack

Download a PBR-compatible resource pack and place it in your resource packs folder. In Minecraft settings, move it to the active list. The mod will recognize PBR data in the pack's textures and materials.

See the Difference

With a PBR pack active and a shader loaded, materials will show:

  • Metallic surfaces that reflect light and sky
  • Rough textures that scatter light naturally
  • Wet blocks after rain with visible moisture
  • Proper material depth instead of flat colors

The effect is most noticeable on ores, metal blocks, and water. If materials look flat or unchanged, verify your shader pack supports PBR—not all do. Combine this with Focal Engine's weather system for puddles and rain effects that enhance the realism further.
