Getting Started with Burn-Out Mechanics

Understanding Temporary Light Sources

Flickering Survival Lanterns adds burn-out mechanics to standard light sources. Lanterns, soul lanterns, candles, redstone torches, and campfires now have limited burn times—they will gradually smolder and eventually extinguish.

To use lit blocks, craft or find unlit versions and place them in your world. Light them using fire tools like flint and steel. As they burn, you'll see visual indicators: smoke particles for redstone torches, blue particles for soul torches, and flickering effects for candles and lanterns.

When a light source burns out completely, it becomes dark and unpowered. Relight it to restore illumination. The mod includes special crafting materials—Glowing Crystals, Glowing Pastes, and Glowing Honeycomb—to help you craft and maintain these temporary light sources throughout your survival adventure.
