Why the Recipe Book Is Disabled and What to Do Instead
What happened to the recipe book
Fast Workbench replaces the recipe book that normally appears in the vanilla crafting screen with a version that does nothing. The reason is network traffic: the vanilla recipe book was constantly sending data even for players who never opened or used it. By disabling it, the mod cuts that wasted traffic.
What this means for you
- You will not see the usual recipe book button or be able to auto-fill recipes from it in a vanilla workbench.
- You need to place ingredients into the grid yourself, the old-fashioned way.
- Once you place a valid combination, the result appears in the output slot as normal.
How to work around it
1. Keep a mental or written note of the recipes you use most.
2. Place ingredients manually the first time for each recipe.
3. After that first craft, the mod caches that recipe, so repeating it with shift-click is fast.
4. If you relied on the recipe book to discover new recipes, use an external reference such as a wiki or a mod that adds a recipe viewer instead.
Important limitation
This change only affects the vanilla workbench. Modded crafting stations keep their own recipe book behavior, and the 2x2 player inventory grid is unaffected.
