How to Make Shift-Click Crafting Faster in a Vanilla Workbench
What the mod changes
Fast Workbench caches the last recipe you crafted and checks that cached recipe first before scanning the entire recipe registry again. This is what makes shift-click crafting noticeably faster, especially when you are producing a large stack of the same item. The mod also reduces network traffic by only sending a packet when something actually needs to be sent, rather than every time a slot in the crafting grid changes.
Steps to benefit from it
1. Place a vanilla crafting table and open it.
2. Put the ingredients for the item you want into the grid once, manually, so the recipe is registered.
3. Take the result out normally the first time.
4. Now shift-click the result slot repeatedly, or hold shift and click, to craft the same recipe over and over.
5. Because the last recipe is cached, each subsequent craft skips the full registry scan, so the batch finishes much faster than it would without the mod.
Things to know
- These improvements only apply inside a vanilla workbench. Modded crafting stations handle their own recipe caching and are not affected.
- The 2x2 crafting grid in your player inventory is not covered by this mod, so crafting there behaves like vanilla.
- If you switch to a different recipe, the cache updates to the new recipe after you craft it once.
