Troubleshoot players failing to connect through the proxy

Check secret key synchronization

The most common connection failure occurs when secrets don't match. Verify that:

1. The secret value in config/FabricProxy-Lite.toml on your Fabric server

2. The forwarding-secret in Velocity's velocity.toml

are identical character-for-character. Even a single difference will cause rejections.

Verify forwarding mode

Confirm that Velocity has forwarding-mode set to modern. FabricProxy Lite only supports modern forwarding, not legacy BungeeCord forwarding.

Check server logs

Restart both services and watch your Fabric server console for error messages. Look for authentication or forwarding-related warnings. If you see "invalid forwarding" or "secret mismatch" errors, return to step one and re-verify your configuration files.

Restart in correct order

Always restart Velocity first, then the Fabric server, to ensure the proxy is ready before the server attempts to receive connections.
