Enable or disable online mode for proxied players

Understand online mode behavior

When using a proxy, your Fabric server receives player information forwarded from Velocity rather than authenticating directly with Mojang. The hackOnlineMode setting in FabricProxy-Lite.toml controls whether the server treats these forwarded players as authenticated.

Configure the setting

Open config/FabricProxy-Lite.toml and locate hackOnlineMode:

  • Set to true to make the server accept forwarded players as if they were online-mode authenticated
  • Set to false to treat them as offline-mode players

Apply your choice

Restart the server for changes to take effect. If you enable hackOnlineMode, ensure your Velocity proxy has proper authentication configured upstream, since the Fabric server will trust whatever player data Velocity sends. This is secure only if your proxy itself validates players correctly.
