Troubleshooting: Why Right-Clicking a Mob Gives No Poison

Check the Basics First

If right-clicking a mob does nothing, run through these quick checks:

  • Are you holding an empty glass bottle? A filled bottle or any other item will not work.
  • Is the mob one of the supported types — Cave Spider, Pufferfish, or Bee? Other mobs cannot be extracted from.
  • Are you close enough? Step right up to the mob before right-clicking.
  • Is the mob alive? Extraction only works on living mobs.

Cooldown and Config Issues

The most common cause is the per-mob cooldown. After a successful extraction, that specific mob cannot be bottled again until its timer expires.

If cooldowns feel far too long or too short, check the extractDelayMs value in the config file. A very large number means very long waits. On a server, the server's config governs behavior, not your local file.

Version and Mod Conflicts

Some mobs are only supported on newer Minecraft versions — for example, Bees require a version where bees exist, and Pufferfish extraction needs 1.13 or later. If a mob type never responds, confirm your game version supports it.

Finally, another mod that also handles right-click interactions could be intercepting your click. Temporarily removing other interaction mods can help you confirm whether a conflict is the cause.
