Which Metal Sponge Should You Use? Iron vs Gold vs Diamond vs Emerald vs Netherite

The General Pattern

All metal sponges in this mod work like upgraded vanilla sponges: they absorb water in an area and become their wet variant when full. The difference between tiers is typically the absorption radius, durability (how many uses before they need drying or break), or both. Higher-tier materials generally mean a larger area cleared per use.

Choosing by Job

  • Iron Sponge — your everyday workhorse. Cheap enough to craft in bulk for small floods, farms, and minor leaks.
  • Gold Sponge — a mid-tier option; useful when you want more coverage than iron without spending diamonds.
  • Diamond Sponge / Emerald Sponge — for bigger jobs like draining ocean monuments, large pools, or clearing waterlogged builds. Pick whichever material you have more of.
  • Netherite Sponge — the top tier. Save it for the largest drains or for situations where you can't afford many drying cycles.

Rule of Thumb

Match the sponge to the size of the job. Using a Netherite Sponge on a one-block puddle wastes it; using an Iron Sponge on an ocean monument means constant drying trips. Bring the tier that lets you finish the job in one or two passes, and always carry a furnace to reset wet sponges.
