How to Make and Use a Lava Sponge to Clear Lava Pools

Crafting the Lava Sponge

Craft a Lava Sponge the same way you'd expect a sponge variant to be made: combine a regular sponge with the mod's lava-related material in a crafting grid. If you already have the mod installed, check the recipe in JEI/REI by searching "Lava Sponge" — the exact ingredient layout will show there. Once crafted, the Lava Sponge behaves like a normal sponge but targets lava source blocks instead of water.

Using It Safely

Hold the Lava Sponge and right-click on a lava source block (or toss it into a pool). It will absorb nearby lava sources in a radius similar to a vanilla sponge. When saturated, it converts into a Molten Lava Sponge — this is the "wet" state for lava. Do not carry a Molten Lava Sponge in your hotbar while standing in flammable terrain; treat it like a hot block.

Drying and Reusing

To reset a Molten Lava Sponge back to a dry Lava Sponge, smelt it in a furnace or place it in a drying setup (check JEI for the exact process the mod uses). This lets you reuse the same sponge for multiple lava-clearing jobs. For large lava lakes in the Nether or underground, bring several sponges and a way to dry them on-site — a furnace plus fuel is usually enough.
