Build a Custom Search Box for Your Mod Menu

Understanding Search Box Components

ESC provides pre-built search box widgets that other mods can integrate into their menus and guides. These aren't standalone items—they're UI building blocks that mod developers use. As a player, you'll encounter them in mods that have implemented search functionality.

Using Search Boxes in Mod Menus

When you open a mod menu that includes a search box:

1. Click the text field to activate it

2. Type keywords to filter displayed items or entries

3. Results update in real-time as you type

4. Press Escape or click elsewhere to close the search

Search boxes typically appear in guides, item browsers, and configuration screens. They use the same fonts as the rest of the interface for visual consistency.

Tips for Effective Searching

Most search implementations are case-insensitive and match partial text. Try searching for:

  • Item or feature names
  • Category keywords
  • Partial words if exact names aren't working

If a mod's search feels slow or unresponsive, it may indicate performance issues unrelated to ESC itself.
