How to Make Custom Resource Packs Work with Enhanced Block Entities

Enhanced Block Entities (EBE) supports resource packs, but only if the pack is built to target EBE's model format. Packs made for vanilla block entities may not apply cleanly.

Understand What EBE Changes

EBE replaces the baked model of chests, ender chests, signs, bells, beds, shulker boxes, and decorated pots. A pack that only swaps the texture (PNG) will usually still work. A pack that swaps the model (JSON) for vanilla may be ignored or cause glitches.

Steps to Test a Pack

1. Enable only EBE and the pack you want to test — disable all others.

2. Press F3 + T to reload resources.

3. Place one of each supported block (chest, sign, bed, shulker box, bell, decorated pot) and inspect each.

4. If a block looks wrong, open the EBE config and disable EBE for just that block type so the pack's vanilla model takes over.

Making Your Own Pack

  • Copy the vanilla texture paths for the block you want to change.
  • Keep the same file names and folder structure.
  • If you're editing models, base them on EBE's format rather than vanilla's, since EBE ignores the vanilla block-entity model JSON.

Signs and Beds

Signs and beds are the most pack-sensitive. If text or bedding disappears, it's almost always a model conflict — fall back to vanilla rendering for that block in the config.
