How to Get More FPS in a Large Storage Room Using Enhanced Block Entities

The biggest performance win from Enhanced Block Entities (EBE) comes in rooms packed with chests, signs, and shulker boxes. Here's how to squeeze the most out of it.

Confirm EBE Is Actually Handling Your Blocks

1. Stand in your storage room and press F3 to open the debug screen.

2. Look at the entity count — with EBE active, chests and signs should no longer count as block entities in the same way, so the number should be lower than with vanilla.

3. If the count is unchanged, EBE may be disabled for those block types in its config. Open the config and re-enable the relevant toggles.

Reduce Other Rendering Load

EBE only fixes block entities. To push FPS higher:

  • Lower Render Distance by a few chunks — EBE lets you see block entities farther, so you can afford a shorter overall distance.
  • Turn off Fancy graphics if you don't need it.
  • Disable clouds and reduce particles in Video Settings.

Layout Tips

  • Group chests into double-chest rows rather than scattered singles — fewer models to draw.
  • Avoid mixing many different shulker box colors in one view if you're GPU-bound; each unique texture is a separate draw call.
  • Keep signs facing the same direction where possible.

Reload with F3 + T after config changes and compare FPS before and after with the same camera angle.
