How to Fix Chests That Look Wrong or Have Missing Animations with Enhanced Block Entities
Enhanced Block Entities (EBE) replaces the vanilla rendering of chests, signs, beds, shulker boxes, bells, and decorated pots with optimized models. Because of this, some resource packs that were built for vanilla rendering can look broken or lose their custom look.
Check Your Resource Pack Order
1. Open Options → Resource Packs.
2. Make sure any pack that retextures chests, signs, or beds is placed above the default pack.
3. If a pack still looks wrong, try disabling it and reloading with F3 + T to refresh textures without restarting.
Re-enable Vanilla-Style Rendering
EBE has a config file (usually config/enhancedblockentities.json or accessible via Mod Menu). Inside you can toggle which block types EBE handles.
1. Open the config.
2. Find the per-block toggles (chests, signs, beds, shulker boxes, bells, decorated pots).
3. Turn off the ones causing visual issues — that block will fall back to vanilla rendering while keeping EBE's optimizations for the rest.
Common Symptoms and Fixes
- Chest lid doesn't open: the pack is overriding the model. Disable the pack or toggle EBE off for chests.
- Sign text invisible: usually a pack conflict; test with only EBE enabled.
- Bed looks flat: the pack uses vanilla-only geometry.
After any change, reload with F3 + T and walk near the affected blocks to confirm.
