How to Change or Remove an Elytra Trim

Trims are permanent per elytra

A trim applied at the smithing table cannot be peeled off the same elytra. There is no in-game recipe to strip a trim back to a plain elytra, and no way to swap one pattern for another on the same item. Plan your look before you commit, especially on an elytra that already has good enchantments.

Practical workarounds

• Keep a spare untrimmed elytra in a chest so you can experiment with patterns without risking your main one.
• If you want a different trim, apply the new trim to a fresh elytra and move your enchantments over via an anvil (combine the enchanted elytra with the new one, or use books).
• If you only want the plain look back, craft or find another elytra and leave it untrimmed.

Resource pack route

Because the mod supports resource packs, the visual appearance of a trim can be changed without touching the item itself. Swapping the resource pack changes how trims render for you, so you can preview different styles before deciding to apply a trim in survival. This does not alter the actual trim data on the elytra — it only changes the textures you see.
