How to Repair a Damaged or Chipped Anvil with Iron Blocks

The Problem with Vanilla Anvils

Anvils degrade through three stages (anvil, chipped anvil, damaged anvil) and eventually break. Vanilla gives you no way to reverse this. Easy Anvils lets you restore a worn anvil using iron blocks.

Repair Steps

1. Obtain iron blocks. You'll need to craft them from iron ingots at a crafting table.

2. Place the damaged or chipped anvil down if it isn't already placed.

3. Right-click the anvil with the iron block in hand (not the anvil GUI — just interact with the block).

4. The anvil should upgrade one stage: damaged becomes chipped, chipped becomes a full anvil.

5. Repeat with additional iron blocks if you need to go from damaged all the way back to pristine.

Practical Tips

  • Keep a stack of iron blocks in a nearby chest if you run an enchanting or trading area with several anvils.
  • Repairing is cheaper than crafting a brand-new anvil from iron ingots plus blocks, especially if you already have blocks on hand.
  • A fully repaired anvil resets its degradation, so it will take the full number of uses before breaking again.
  • If the interaction doesn't work, make sure you're sneaking or not — some setups require a specific click. Try both if the first attempt fails.
