How to Keep Items in the Anvil After Closing the Interface

Why Items Disappear in Vanilla

In vanilla Minecraft, closing an anvil with items still inside drops them on the ground (or deletes them if the block is broken). Easy Anvils changes this so the anvil remembers its contents, letting you walk away mid-job and come back later.

Using the Persistent Anvil

1. Place an anvil and right-click it to open the interface.

2. Put your tool, weapon, or armor in the left slot and the repair material (or second item) in the right slot.

3. If you don't have enough XP yet, just press Escape to close the screen. The items stay inside.

4. Go grind XP, mine, or fight mobs, then return and right-click the same anvil. Your items are still sitting in their slots.

5. Complete the operation when you're ready.

Things to Watch Out For

  • Breaking the anvil with a pickaxe still drops the stored items, so you won't lose them, but you'll need to pick them up.
  • If you have multiple anvils, each one keeps its own contents. Don't mix them up.
  • This is especially handy for expensive enchanted gear where you want to combine books one at a time without juggling inventory space.
