How to Use Dynmap Chat and Player Tracking Features

Dynmap can mirror in-game chat to the web map and let web viewers talk back, plus show where players are in real time.

Seeing players and chat on the map

When player tracking is enabled, each online player appears as their skin face at their current coordinates. Moving in-game moves the icon on the map without a page reload. Chat messages appear either as balloons above the speaker's icon or in a chat panel on the side, depending on configuration.

Web-to-game chat

If web chat is enabled, a text box appears on the map page. Typing there sends the message into the Minecraft server chat, usually tagged so players know it came from the web. This requires the server to allow it and may require the web user to be logged in, depending on settings.

Toggling what you see

On the map sidebar you can:

  • Hide or show the player list.
  • Hide or show the chat box.
  • Toggle individual marker sets.

If players do not appear, the server may have player tracking disabled, or you may be viewing a world where they are not currently located. Check the world selector before assuming tracking is broken.
