How to Open and Use the Dynmap Web Map

Once Dynmap is running on your server, the map is served from the same machine over HTTP. You do not need a separate web host to view it.

Finding the map URL

Open a browser and go to your server's address followed by the Dynmap port. If your server IP is play.example.com, the map is usually reachable at http://play.example.com:8123. For a local test server, try http://localhost:8123. If the page does not load, the port may have been changed in the Dynmap configuration, so check with whoever set up the server.

Navigating the map

The interface behaves like a typical web map:

  • Drag with the left mouse button to pan around the world.
  • Scroll to zoom in and out.
  • Use the layer or world selector to switch between dimensions and between renderers (for example a flat, fast renderer versus a detailed one).
  • Click a player's face icon to see their name; chat balloons may appear over players who are talking.
  • Toggle the player list, chat box, and marker sets from the sidebar.

If the map looks empty or outdated, it may simply be waiting for the next render pass. Leave the browser tab open and tiles will refresh as the world changes.
