How to Configure What Dynmap Renders and How Often

Dynmap's rendering is controlled by configuration files on the server. Editing them lets you trade visual detail against CPU and disk usage.

Choosing renderers per world

In the Dynmap configuration you assign one or more renderers to each world. Common choices include a fast flat or low-detail renderer for large survival worlds and a high-detail renderer for a smaller creative or showcase world. You can enable several renderers for the same world and let viewers pick between them on the map.

Controlling update frequency and range

Key settings to look for:

  • The render trigger interval, which decides how often Dynmap checks for changed chunks and re-renders them.
  • Whether rendering is limited to areas near players or covers the whole world.
  • The maximum zoom levels, since each extra zoom level multiplies the number of tiles stored.

Lowering the update frequency and capping zoom levels greatly reduces load on busy servers. If the map lags behind, increase the interval rather than disabling rendering entirely.

Applying changes

After editing the config, reload Dynmap or restart the server so the new settings take effect. Existing tiles are reused, so only changed areas get re-rendered on the next pass.
