How to Grow Dynamic Mushrooms and Get Mushroom Caps

Turning Mushrooms into Trees

Dynamic Trees Plus makes brown and red mushrooms grow into full dynamic mushroom trees instead of staying as flat caps on the ground. To start one, place a mushroom on a suitable block — mycelium, podzol, or dirt works in most mushroom-friendly setups. With the mod active, the mushroom develops a stem and cap structure over time rather than remaining a single block.

Harvesting Brown and Red Mushroom Caps

The wiki lists Brown Mushroom Cap and Red Mushroom Cap as separate blocks, which means mature mushroom trees produce caps you can break and collect. Harvest the caps from the top of the tree the way you'd harvest leaves or fruit from other dynamic trees. Leave the stem and lower structure in place if you want the tree to keep producing, or chop the whole thing if you need the wood-like stem material.

Farming Tips

Mushroom trees grow best in dim conditions, matching vanilla mushroom behavior, so a shaded or roofed farm works well. Space them out — dynamic mushroom trees spread their caps wide and can overlap. If you're growing them for caps specifically, check the tree periodically and take only the mature caps; smaller caps may still be developing. Bone meal can speed growth where the mod allows it. Keep a few spare mushrooms in a chest so you can replant after harvesting a tree down to the base.
