How to See Durability of Items in Chests and Other Containers

The Core Benefit

One of the main reasons to use this mod is checking gear without moving it. You can hover over any tool, weapon, or armor piece sitting inside a chest, barrel, shulker box, or other container and read its durability directly from the tooltip.

Step by Step

1. Open the container as normal.

2. Move your cursor over the item you want to inspect.

3. Read the durability line that appears in the tooltip alongside the item's name and other info.

No equipping, no dragging the item to your inventory, and no special key press is required. This works the same whether the item is in a chest, your own inventory, your hotbar, or an output slot.

Practical Uses

  • Sorting loot after a trip: Quickly identify which of several similar tools is nearly broken so you can repair or discard it.
  • Storage management: Scan a wall of chests for worn gear before a boss fight or mining run.
  • Trading and sharing: Check the condition of items in a chest you share with friends on a multiplayer server.

Because the mod is client-side, these tooltips appear for you even on servers that do not have the mod installed, so container inspection works anywhere you play.
