How to Survive and Clear a Swamp Hut Without Dying

Know the Threat

Swamp huts spawn witches, and witches throw harming, poison, and slowness potions from range. Inside a small hut you have almost no room to dodge, which is why most deaths here happen indoors. The overhauled huts are still cramped, so treat the interior as a trap until it's cleared.

A Safe Clearing Routine

1. Scout from outside. Circle the hut at a distance and count the witches through the windows before committing.

2. Open your own entrance. Break a wall block on the side away from the door. This gives you a second exit and splits enemy attention.

3. Fight in the open. Stand in the water or on dry ground outside and let witches come to you. Their potions are far easier to sidestep outdoors.

4. Bring milk. A bucket of milk clears poison and slowness instantly, which is the difference between escaping and dying.

5. Use a shield. Shields block a surprising amount of witch projectile damage if you keep it raised between swings.

After the Fight

Once the interior is clear, light it up so nothing respawns in the dark corners. Place torches on every wall and check the ceiling — the wooden variant has a taller roofline with shadowed gaps. Only then settle in to use the bed and brewing stand.
