Reduce Entity Lag with Async Pathfinding
Understanding Async Pathfinding
DivineMC calculates mob movement paths off the main thread using async pathfinding. This prevents thousands of mobs from freezing your server when they simultaneously search for targets or navigate terrain.
Optimizing Mob Farms
Async pathfinding allows larger mob farms without severe performance penalties. However, avoid stacking unlimited mobs in confined spaces—aim for reasonable densities and use water/fall damage to process mobs efficiently.
Monitoring Entity Performance
Check entity counts using /entitycount or similar diagnostic tools. High numbers in specific chunks indicate concentration points. Spread mob farms across multiple locations or implement culling mechanisms to maintain performance.
Configuration Tips
- Verify async pathfinding is active in your server settings
- Adjust pathfinding update frequency if mobs seem unresponsive (this is a trade-off between smoothness and performance)
- Use hoppers and collection systems to process mob drops quickly, preventing item entity buildup
- Consider disabling pathfinding for passive mobs that don't need complex navigation
