Improve Entity Tracking for Large Player Counts
What Entity Tracking Does
Entity tracking determines which players see which entities and mobs. DivineMC optimizes this system to handle servers with many simultaneous players by reducing unnecessary network updates and calculations.
Adjusting Tracking Range
Entity tracking range controls how far players can see mobs and other entities. Reducing range slightly decreases bandwidth and CPU usage without noticeably affecting gameplay. Find tracking settings in your configuration and test different values.
Balancing Visibility and Performance
Lower tracking ranges improve performance but may make distant mobs disappear abruptly. Higher ranges feel smoother but cost more resources. For servers exceeding 100 players, consider reducing tracking range by 10-20% from defaults.
Testing Changes
After adjusting entity tracking:
- Monitor
/tpsand/msptduring peak hours - Have players report if mob behavior feels unnatural
- Gradually fine-tune settings rather than making drastic changes
- Test with varied player distributions (concentrated vs. spread out)
