Optimize Performance While Maintaining Long View Distance

Balance Distance and Detail

The key to good performance is adjusting Level of Detail appropriately. Reduce detail in very distant terrain—blocks that are far away don't need to be rendered with full precision. Set a lower LOD value for chunks beyond a certain distance.

Use Chunk Culling

Enable any available culling options in the mod settings. This prevents the mod from rendering terrain that's blocked from view (behind mountains or underground), saving processing power.

Monitor Frame Rate

Use your game's debug screen to watch FPS while adjusting settings. Make one change at a time and observe the impact. Typically, reducing render distance has more effect than adjusting LOD.

Disable Unnecessary Features

If you don't need pre-loaded chunks or shader support, disable these features. They consume resources even when not actively used.

Adjust Based on Hardware

Lower-end systems should use shorter render distances and higher LOD values. High-end systems can push both settings further. Start conservative and increase until you notice frame drops.
