Understand how vanilla and Pixelmon mobs coexist

Spawn mechanics

This mod removes Pixelmon's override of vanilla mob spawning. Instead of Pixelmon replacing all hostile and passive mobs, both systems operate independently:

  • Vanilla mobs spawn according to standard Minecraft rules (darkness, biome, difficulty)
  • Pixelmon creatures spawn in their configured biomes and conditions

Both can appear in the same area without conflict.

Biome-specific behavior

In most biomes, you'll encounter both vanilla mobs and Pixelmon creatures. Some Pixelmon spawn in specific biomes or weather conditions, so you might see more Pixelmon in certain areas while vanilla mobs remain common everywhere.

Performance impact

With both systems active, more mobs may spawn overall. This is normal and expected. If performance suffers, you can adjust spawn rates in Pixelmon's config files.

Gameplay benefits

You get the full Minecraft experience—hunting vanilla resources like string and bones—while also catching Pixelmon. This creates a richer, more varied world.
