Holding Light-Emitting Items

When you hold or carry certain light-emitting items in your hand or inventory, they automatically cast light around you. This works whether you're holding the item actively or it's simply in your hotbar.

How to Use This Feature

1. Obtain a light source (torches, lanterns, glowstone, or similar light-emitting blocks/items)

2. Hold it in your main hand or keep it in your active hotbar slot

3. Walk around—the light radiates from your position, illuminating caves and dark areas as you move

4. Switch items freely—the dynamic lighting updates instantly when you change what you're holding

Practical Applications

• Cave exploration: Navigate without placing torches everywhere
• Night travel: See your surroundings while moving through darkness
• Hands-free lighting: Keep a light source in your inventory for ambient illumination
