Optimize Depth of Field Performance on Low-End Systems

Why DepthField Runs Well on Weak Hardware

Unlike full ray-tracing or complex post-processing shaders, DepthField uses depth-based blur that's relatively lightweight. However, you can still optimize further if you experience lag.

Performance Tuning Steps

Reduce blur intensity in shader settings—this decreases the calculation load per frame. Lower your render distance if you haven't already; less terrain to process means more resources for the shader. Disable other visual enhancements like ambient occlusion or parallax mapping if your shader pack includes them.

Monitor Your Frame Rate

Use F3 (debug screen) to watch your FPS while the shader is active. If it drops significantly, try disabling DepthField temporarily to confirm it's the culprit. You can also reduce focus distance range, which limits how much of the scene needs blur calculations.

Alternative: Reduce Shader Quality

Some implementations offer quality presets (low, medium, high). Switch to a lower preset if available. This maintains the visual effect while using less GPU power, keeping your game smooth on older laptops.
