Find Deepslate Ore Deposits Efficiently

Understand Deepslate Ore Generation

Deepslate ores generate much deeper underground than their stone counterparts. To locate them:

1. Descend to the deepest levels of the overworld (Y-level 0 and below)

2. Look for the dark gray deepslate blocks that form the base stone layer

3. Scan for ore veins embedded in this deepslate — they appear as colored blocks contrasting against the dark stone

Mining Strategy

Once you've reached deepslate depth:

• Branch mine horizontally at a consistent depth to encounter more ore veins
• Use a pickaxe appropriate to the ore type (stone pickaxe minimum for most ores)
• Mark productive areas so you can return for additional mining runs
• Bring light sources — the deep underground is pitch black

The deeper location means you'll encounter fewer players' previous mining marks, so deepslate veins often feel fresher and more abundant. The risk of deep mining is offset by the doubled ore drops, making it worthwhile compared to shallow mining.
