Use Data Traders in a Custom Map or Adventure

Planning Your Trading Economy

Before creating traders, design what items players need and what rewards make sense. Consider progression—early traders might offer basic supplies, while later traders provide rare or powerful items.

Creating Themed Traders

Use datapacks to create multiple Data Traders with different trade sets. A blacksmith trader might exchange ores for tools, while a merchant offers decorative blocks. Spawn each variant in thematic locations using their respective spawn eggs.

Balancing Trades

Ensure trades feel fair and encourage exploration. Avoid making any single trade too powerful or too cheap. Consider setting trade limits so players can't infinitely exploit one exchange.

Integration with Map Features

Data Traders work well alongside custom structures, quests, and progression systems. You can gate access to certain traders behind locked doors or place them in discovered locations. Their customizable nature makes them ideal for adventure maps where you need NPCs with specific, controlled trade options that standard villagers can't provide.
