How to Enable Developer Mode and Get the Settings Book in the Data API Data Pack

Turning On Developer Mode

Before any of the Data API tools become useful, you need to flip the pack into developer mode. Open your chat and run:

`

/function gamerule:data_api/developer_mode

`

This toggles developer mode on or off. Run it once to enable it, and run it again if you ever want to hide the extra tooling from a survival world. While developer mode is active, the pack exposes its custom NBT tags, objectives, and helper functions for use in your own data packs.

Summoning the Settings Book

With developer mode on, you can grab the reference book that documents the pack's features. Run either of these commands:

`

/function dev:settings

/function settings:data_api

`

Both summon a settings book into your inventory. Open it like any written book to read through the available custom NBT tags, block targeting options, and objectives. Use it as a quick lookup while you build items, mobs, or GUIs.

Cleaning Up Later

If you want to remove the pack's developer resources without deleting the pack itself, run /function uninstall:developer_resources. To fully strip the pack's functions, run /function uninstall:data_api. Note that uninstalling will break any items or entities that rely on the pack's custom tags.
