How to Edit dark-loading-screen.json Manually

Finding and Opening the File

Manual configuration lives at .minecraft/config/dark-loading-screen.json. On Windows this is usually %appdata%\.minecraft\config\; on macOS it is inside ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/config/; on Linux it is ~/.minecraft/config/. If the file does not exist yet, launch the game once with the mod installed so it generates a default, then close the game fully.

Open the file with any plain-text editor (Notepad, VS Code, nano). It is a small JSON object containing color values for the loading screen background and related elements. Do not add comments — JSON does not allow them and the mod will fail to parse the file.

Editing and Applying Changes

Change only the values, not the key names. Colors are typically written as hex strings or RGB arrays; keep the same format the default file uses. Save the file with UTF-8 encoding and no BOM.

Manual edits are only visible after a full game restart — reloading resources with F3+T is not enough, because the config is read at startup. If the game crashes or the loading screen reverts to vanilla, your JSON is malformed: restore a backup, re-check commas and quotes, and try again.
