Custom Nether Portals Mod Guide: Building Portals with Custom Frames
Building a Nether Portal with Custom Frames
Custom Nether Portals Mod changes how you construct a Nether portal by letting you use blocks other than obsidian for the frame. Instead of hunting for obsidian, you can build the familiar portal shape out of materials like stone, wood, or blocks added by other mods.
To build a portal, arrange your chosen frame blocks in the standard portal outline, then light it the same way you would a vanilla portal. The mod checks the frame against its configuration rather than requiring obsidian specifically, so any block type allowed in the config works.
The mod also supports configurable portal blocks, meaning the portal interior can look or behave differently depending on how it is set up. This is useful for builders who want portals that match their base's theme, and for modpack creators who want to define which materials are valid.
Because it stays compatible with vanilla mechanics, existing portals and normal gameplay are unaffected. Only the frame material requirement changes, leaving lighting, travel, and linking behavior intact.
