How to Use Cull Leaves Alongside Sodium and Other Performance Mods
Compatibility Basics
Cull Leaves is built to cooperate with other rendering and performance mods rather than fight them. Sodium, Canvas, and similar mods change how chunks and geometry are rendered, while Cull Leaves changes which leaf faces exist to be rendered in the first place. Because they operate at different stages, they usually stack cleanly.
Steps for a Stable Setup
1. Install your performance mod (for example Sodium) as you normally would.
2. Add Cull Leaves to the mods folder alongside it.
3. Launch the game and enter a world with plenty of trees.
4. Compare frame rate with Cull Leaves enabled versus disabled to confirm it is helping.
5. If you notice missing or flickering leaves, check whether your performance mod has its own leaf or foliage option and adjust it.
Avoiding Conflicts
Do not enable two separate mods that both cull leaf faces, as they may double-process geometry or produce artifacts. If your performance mod already includes a smart-leaves style feature, pick one approach and disable the other. Keep an eye on mod update notes, since rendering pipelines change over time. When in doubt, test in a creative world before committing the setup to your main survival save.
