Adjust Leaf Render Distance for Better Performance

Access the Configuration Menu

Open your mod settings or config folder. Cull Fewer Leaves provides an in-game configuration option accessible through your mod menu (usually found in Settings or Mod Options, depending on your mod loader).

Change the Leaf Layer Setting

Locate the option that controls how many inner leaf layers remain visible. The mod lets you customize this value:

  • Higher values = more leaf layers render, trees look fuller but use more resources
  • Lower values = fewer layers render, better performance but trees may look thinner

Start by testing the default setting. If you're experiencing lag in dense forests or swamps, reduce the layer count. If trees look too sparse or unnatural, increase it.

Apply and Test

Save your changes and return to your world. Move through a leafy area—like a forest or mangrove swamp—and observe the frame rate change. You may need to reload your world for changes to take full effect.

Adjust incrementally until you find the balance between visual quality and smooth gameplay that works for your computer.
