Automate Item Processing with Mechanical Presses and Gearboxes
Understand Rotational Power Requirements
Different machines need different amounts of rotational power to operate. A mechanical press requires consistent power from your shaft network. Gearboxes help you adjust the speed and torque of this power to match what each machine needs.
Set Up a Gearbox Chain
Place gearboxes between your power source and your press. Gearboxes can increase or decrease rotational speed depending on their configuration. Experiment with different gear ratios to find what works for your recipe.
Position Your Press
Attach the mechanical press to the output of your gearbox chain. The press will begin crafting recipes that require pressing—like flattening ingots or compacting materials—as long as it receives power.
Supply Input Materials
Use a hopper or conveyor belt to feed raw materials into the press. Items will be processed automatically and output on the other side. Connect the output to a chest or another machine in your assembly line.
Optimize Your Line
If your press is too slow, increase rotational speed with gearboxes. If it's too fast and backing up, slow it down. Stack multiple presses in parallel to process more items simultaneously.
Expand Automation
Add more specialized machines like crushers, saws, or mixers to create complex multi-step production chains that run entirely on their own.
