How to Build and Use the Alloy Forge to Make Bronze and Steel

Building the Alloy Forge

Craft the Alloy Forge and place it where you have room for piping or hoppers nearby. The forge is the single machine that produces both alloys, so plan your base around it rather than scattering multiple forges.

Making Bronze

Bronze is a copper-tin alloy. Feed copper and tin into the forge in the correct ratio and it outputs Bronze Ingots. If you are unsure of the exact ratio, check the in-game recipe viewer (JEI/REI) — the forge recipe will show the precise input counts. Once you have Bronze Ingots you can press them into Bronze Sheets, cast them into Casings, or craft decorative blocks like Bronze Pillars and Cut Bronze.

Making Steel

Steel requires iron plus a carbon source (typically coal or charcoal) processed in the forge. Again, confirm the ratio in your recipe viewer before committing a stack of iron. Steel unlocks the mod's structural and combat content: Steel Casings, Steel Bars, Steel Catwalk, Steel Doors, and the Steel armor and axe.

Practical Tips

  • Keep a chest of copper, tin, iron, and coal adjacent to the forge so you can batch-craft.
  • Bronze oxidizes over time into Exposed, Weathered, and Oxidized variants — this is cosmetic and reversible with an axe, so don't panic when your build changes color.
  • Steel does not oxidize; use it for anything you want to stay clean.
